A Cozy Fall Afternoon at Swans Trail Farms

Golden hour at Swans Trail Farms pumpkin patch near Seattle.

There’s something about fall in the Pacific Northwest that feels extra cozy: the smell of cinnamon in the air, the crunch of leaves under your boots, and families laughing as they take pictures among rows of pumpkins.

This season, I’ve been on a little mission: to find fun, scenic things to do in the PNW that truly capture the spirit of fall. Swans Trail Farms was at the top of my checklist, and it didn’t disappoint.

The air carried that unmistakable PNW freshness — like walking through a dewy field at dawn, grasshoppers chirping after a soft rain days before.

About Swans Trail Farms

Swans Trail Farms has been family-owned since 1984 by the Krause family, who first purchased it as a dairy farm before turning it into one of Snohomish County’s most beloved fall destinations.

In the mid-90s, they introduced the pumpkin patch, wagon rides, and corn maze that families flock to every October. Just an hour’s drive from Seattle, it’s an easy day trip that offers everything from apple picking and pumpkin patches to homemade cider and cozy fall treats.

My Visit

This was my first time visiting Swans Trail Farms, and it instantly became one of my favorite fall memories. Parking was easy (and free!), and the space felt wide open and relaxed, kids playing in the fields, couples posing for photos, and that perfect crisp breeze carrying the scent of cinnamon and fresh apples.

I came mainly for the apples (Cosmic Crisps are my weakness), but I couldn’t resist wandering through the pumpkin patch for those quintessential fall photos. Between the sound of crunchy leaves, laughter in the distance, and the glow of orange pumpkins, it was the perfect PNW fall day.

  • Best time to visit: Early to mid-October before the crowds.

  • Must-try: Fresh apple cider and pumpkin donuts.

  • Outfit: Wear comfortable shoes — preferably waterproof, as some areas can get muddy.

Final Thoughts

Swans Trail Farms perfectly captures what I love most about fall in the PNW: community, cozy vibes, and the simple joy of slowing down for a day outdoors. Whether you’re apple-picking, taking family photos, or just in it for the donuts (no judgment here), it’s a sweet reminder that magic often lives in the simplest places.

If you’re a local brand, winery, or event host looking to showcase fall experiences in the Pacific Northwest, I’d love to connect for future collaborations. This season was just the start of my PNW fall checklist, and Swans Trail Farms set the bar high!
